Kukushkin reaches Hangzhou 2024 QFs
Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hangzhou 2024 Asian Games tennis competition with a straight-sets victory over Ivan Shevchenko of Uzbekistan.
The experienced Kukushkin, who is competing in his fourth Asian Games, was too strong for his opponent throughout the match, winning 6-1, 6-4 in just over an hour.
Kukushkin will now face either top seed Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan or fellow Kazakhstani Aleksandr Nedovyesov in the last eight.
Shevchenko falls short in Hangzhou 2024
Ivan Shevchenko's run at the Hangzhou 2024 Asian Games tennis competition came to an end in the second round with a defeat to Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.
The Uzbekistani player, who had upset sixth seed Yuichi Sugita of Japan in the first round, was outclassed by the more experienced Kukushkin, losing 6-1, 6-4.
Shevchenko will be disappointed not to have reached the quarterfinals, but he can take solace in the fact that he has shown that he has the potential to compete at the highest level.
